I adored this tutorial by Heather Grace Green over on Poppytalk.  Such a simple yet completely effective idea.

Here's how:

• plain white mugs (Ikea do cheap nice ones)
• masking tape
• matte-finish indoor fast-drying gold spray paint 
• clear sealer for ceramic

I am going to give this a go.  Pretty golden cups for Christmas, perfect for a Chai Latte, Egg Nog or even Mulled Cider.  Perfect.  It could work just as well on glasses too.
